"THE HOUSEHUSBAND BLUES" is one of "Loose Bruce" Kerr's early solo compositions from 1972-74. In about the summer of either '74 or '75, while returning to his hometown of Waukesha, Wisconsin during his living on the road, he bumped into fellow Waukeshan, guitarist whiz, Bruce Riddeough. The result was both Bruces playing on this tune (Bruce R. on bottleneck guitar). Les Paul's multitrack recording invention had just, and finally, reached consumer level with the TEAC 4 track reel-to-reel recorder, allowing Bruce K. to harmonize with himself, and add drums & bass.
The song deals with the then-current loosening of parents playing traditional, defined roles...at a time when fathers were starting to take on some of the traditional wife's roles in raising kids, including inheriting some of the same downsides that can accompany those duties.
